'node'

Forgive me if I'm asking something completely stupid: I understand that everything in Drupal is a node. Still, is there a way to rename '/node' to something more specific, like '/about-us', or '/fred'?

node renaming

There is a way to rename your nodes by going to "Administer/URL aliases". There you can change the original node designation to a more meaningful name.
For "About us", if you go to Administer/menus" there is already a menu preset for it. All you have to do is fill in the info and assign it to where you want it to go (primary links or navigation).
