Drupal Scalability and Infrastructure "best practices"

I've been scurrying all over Google to help find information on how to make a Drupal Site really handle some traffic. I know that the ONION and the Firefox sites might be considered as large sites, but I'm looking for information on how to make the sites scale to have 500-1000 simultaneous users, handle about 500,000 to 1,000,000 hits per day and be able to support more of a community functionality rather than just a publish out site.

I haven't been able to find any relevant information on making Drupal "bigger" .. any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

I haven't faced that problem head on..yet

But I see it coming. So I'm very interested in the solution.

Only right now I am still focused on learning how to build sites that do what I want them to do...

Have you seen these?

There was a pretty good seminar on this from the guys at lullabot at DrupalCon last month.

Check out:

Hope that helps some...
